The Sidewalk Joy Map is run by two Portlanders, PDX FLAG and PDX Dinorama, as a fun side project to highlight above-and-beyond community spots in Portland, OR.

We’re always happy to hear about other amazing sidewalk-adjacent places of interaction and inspiration. Please fill out this form if you feel you have (or know of) a spot to be added to the Sidewalk Joy Map! We'd love to hear more about it.

The criteria for a PDX Sidewalk Joy spot are as follows: 

1. The installation is in Portland, Oregon. If you’re outside of Portland, Oregon, please apply to the worldwide map here!

2. The art installation is interactive for the public or updated regularly. Art installations that are not interactive but updated regularly can include an art gallery, diorama, rotating decorated yard skeleton or flamingos, etc.  

3. Exchanges must be specifically for items other than books or dog treats like toy exchanges, artwork exchanges, yarn exchanges, puzzle exchanges OR have additional interactivity options besides exchanging books. 

4. Exchanges must have signage and an installed exchange housing (cabinet, shelf, box, etc).

5. The installation is enjoyable year-round or close to it. For installations that are up most of the year, we'll specify on the map that they're seasonal.

6. If the installation is associated with a business, it must be free, available at all times, and without the passerby needing to enter a building. Sidewalk Joy is for everyone!
